The Appointments Committee of Parliament has approved the nomination of Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor (SP).

With a majority vote and the exception of Tamale North MP, Suhuyini Alhassan Sayibu who voted against his approval, Mr. Amidu becomes Ghana's first Special Prosecutor and tasked to expose corrupt officials ensuring they're brought to book.

The former Attorney General and Citizen Vigilante as he's affectionately called appeared before the Committee on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, for vetting.

Commenting on the approval of Mr. Amidu as SP, NDC former National Organizer Yaw Boateng Gyan says the nomination and subsequent approval of Mr. Amidu has vindicated the NDC.

According to him, members of the ruling New Patriotic Party including President Nana Akufo-Addo have consistently accused the NDC of being a corrupt party.

"When the President was looking for someone to be the country's Special Prosecutor, he couldn't find any person within the NPP but the NDC", he said to wit the nomination and approval of Mr. Amidu contradicts the position of the NPP that they're are thieves and corrupt party.

He said on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' that "it's a credit to us (NDC). We have to pride ourselves on it. You say we’re thieves but you could find someone within us to check your corrupt deeds in order to find lasting solution to the problem, then it tells me all they were saying about us was just empty talk. This shows that the NPP has admitted that the NDC party is not corrupt”.
