Workers of the Volta River Authority have expressed satisfaction over the removal of former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko and subsequent replacement of outgoing Lands and Natural Resources minister, John Peter Amewu as Energy minister.

Early on the Senior Staff Association and the Public Services Workers Union at the VRA fumed over the actions of Mr. Boakye Agyarko with regards to the new Ameri deal, saying “it will bring more hardship to the good people of our dear country- Ghana.”

Per the botched Novation and Amendments to the AMERI deal, a new company, Mytilineous International Trading Company, was scheduled to take over the management of the AMERI power plant for 15 years.

The new company under the agreement offered to pay AMERI an amount of $52,160,560, with the government paying the remaining $39 million to the Dubai-based AMERI Energy to wash its hands off the deal entirely.

In a reaction to the latest reshuffle, Union chairman of the VRA, Frank Kaba Adatuu, said: “we refer to change, we don’t play any role in change, we only explain our concern to the president, that the minister then was not the right one because the role he was playing and the steps he was taking was not the best for Ghana”

But Mr. Adatuu said although they don’t know what the incoming minister is bringing on board, they are optimistic if he should listen to them and their concern and address it accordingly, the VRA will make progress.

He has therefore assured him [Peter Amewu] of their unwavering support for the minister and promise to work hand in hand to achieve the plans of the president.
