Awula Serwah, Coordinator for Eco-Conscious, has called on local assemblies to rid city streets of kiosks and instead plant trees to restore greenery and beautify the country.

She expressed concern over the increasing trend of placing kiosks along roadsides and in front of houses instead of planting trees.

Speaking on the Class Morning Show with Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang on Class91.3FM, Awula Serwah criticized this practice and urged authorities to take action to reverse it.

She stated, "We are planting kiosks instead of trees." Citing an example in Adenta, she noted that opposite the Melcom, "all we've done is plant kiosks, some so close to the road that wares spill onto the roads, and customers stand on the roads."

"We have asked for these kiosks to be removed because we’re not supposed to be planting kiosks; we should be planting trees. How does a city become a garden city? Only if we plant trees. But if we cut down trees and replace them with kiosks while local authorities stand idly by, it's no wonder Accra and Ghana have become hot. It is our own activities that are contributing to climate change," she lamented.

Awula Serwah called on all local authorities to stop the proliferation of kiosks and ensure trees are planted along all streets to enhance the beauty and coolness of urban areas.

She also suggested planting fruit trees so that people can enjoy fresh fruits as they pass by.
