We’re saddled with GHC34m debt; we’ve no resources to deal with disasters - NADMO

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has disclosed that it has no resources for disaster relief as the flooding season begins.

According to the Director-General of NADMO, Nana Agyeman Prempeh told the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Monday, April 15, 2019 that the organization is saddled with a GHC34million debt and 28 court suits over debt incurred before 2017.

He revealed that monies that have been released to NADMO from the Finance Ministry this year is being spent on debt payment leaving them with no resources to deal with disasters as the country ushers into the rainy season.

“…As I sit here right now I have about 28 court cases. So we’ve been paying the debt because of that we do not get much money to buy relief items. As we sit here, this year we’ve not been able to buy anything thing. I will say we don’t have enough resources.”

Meanwhile, the Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, has confirmed that the NADMO has no resources but however, assured that government is committed to releasing funds when necessary to help victims.
