Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has disclosed that a total of 50,000 Coronavirus tests is expected to be conducted in the next four to six weeks.

According to him, having devices that capture respiratory residue samples for lab and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) kits available would help achieve the aforementioned target.

He said, “it’s the combination of these two that we are looking to use help us achieve the about 50,000 tests that we have targeted to do over at least the four to six weeks”.

“So far it is only Noguchi that calibrated machines which can process samples of suspected patients,” he said in an interview on Citi TV.

Government of Ghana through the health ministry has brought on board other labs that have similar machines but are mostly used for tuberculosis and other respiratory-related issues.

Ghana’s current active case of the novel coronavirus is 195 with five deaths.

About 58 infected persons are receiving treatment at home after 20 of them were recently discharged.
