The Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Eklu, has refuted the public perception that the police are unable to deal with land guards.
Armed land guards have been wreaking havoc in many parts of Greater Accra as well as other areas across the country through their criminal activities.
Some individuals have accused the police of conniving with some of the land guards.
However, Mr Eklu insists that the police “have not lost the fight against land guards”.
He told Moro Awudu on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Monday, 11 December that any police found colluding with such criminals is “not worth his salt” and asked the public to report such miscreants for immediate redress.
ACP Eklu said over 50 land guard suspects have been arrested in the past few weeks in various parts of Kasoa in the Central Region where their activities are rife.
Meanwhile, he says over 14,000 police officers will be deployed during the Christmas holidays to help curb crime. He pointed out that police visibility is very important and officers will be on patrol at vantage areas.
He revealed that the police service has started giving weekly security and safety tips to the public and also engaging the media to intensify education during the yuletide.
He advised the public to step up security alertness and share information with the police to ensure criminal activities are reduced to the barest minimum.
