The Greater Accra regional Police command has dispelled allegations from the Alliance for Accountable Governance that it is being manipulated to cancel the group’s intended red revolution demonstration.

AFAG has accused the Police of making a U-turn to cancel its demonstration after the police had given them the go-ahead.

The 3-day continuous demonstration by the group was scheduled to start today and end on Thursday.

It is indented to challenge the decision by the Electoral Commission to go ahead with the creation of the 45 new constituencies.

But Greater Accra Regional Police PRO, DSP Freeman Tettey in an interview with XYZ News said a meeting between the Police and the group rather ended inconclusive.

According to DSP Tettey, the Police is still available for further negotiation with AFAG on the planned demonstration.

“We have men and women in the Police service who take decisions and we have the constitution backing us so I don’t think there is any power anywhere that can be remoting the Police.

“It is an unfair indictment on the Police” Mr. Tettey said.

But AFAG says even though the reasons given by the Police command are not convincing it has however called off the demonstration in the interest of peace.
