We were not consulted on new curriculum – Book Publishers

President of the Ghana Book Publishers Association, Elliot Agyare, has said the Ghana Education Service (GES) did not engage them on the new curriculum, which is expected to run through crèche to Junior High school in September.

According to him, if they had been engaged before coming out with the new curriculum, there wouldn’t be the need to organise orientation to explain further "what the new curriculum" entails to the publishers’ association.

Mr. Agyare explained that, before a new curriculum is rolled out, the ministry in charge of its formulation would forward the completed syllabus to the publishers Association to enable them produce the books in accordance with the new syllabus given them.

"After producing the books, we forward back the printed book to the ministry for inspection," he said.

Mr. Agyare made these assertions known in an interview with ‘Ekourba’ on Atinka AM Drive on Atinka Friday

Speaking further, Mr. Agyare noted that the ministry has not informed them to produce books for the 2019/2020 academic year but they were only told to "download the new curriculum and continue with their work".

“Within this short period, they are trying to meet with us to show us their program schedule and we will see if we can meet their timelines or not…” he said.

He observed that, it would have been ideal if they had been part of the processes.

"There would not have been the need to organise an orientation for us,". Mr Agyare added.
