The Ranking Member on Parliament's Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, has vowed that the Minority Caucus will vigilantly oversee recruitments into Ghana's security services to prevent political interference and abuse.

In a post on X on Friday, October 10, 2025, the Assin South MP accused the government of being under pressure to relax recruitment standards, allegedly to favor aging members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He pledged fierce resistance to any such moves, emphasising the need to protect the integrity of the nation's armed forces.

'Ghana Armed Force not for overaged party boys' – NPP MP to NDC lawmakers

“After President Mahama openly promising to recruit NDC foot-soldiers into Security Agencies to make it the sole bonafide of NDCs, they are now under pressure to lower recruitment standards so they push in their 35-year-old unqualified party footsoldiers into military. We shall fiercely resist this dangerous and backward attempt. We shall closely monitor and audit every recruitment into every security agency to ensure this government doesn’t destroy our security forces,” Ntim Fordjour wrote.

The statement follows his earlier criticisms of concerns voiced by some NDC MPs regarding the current age limits for security service recruitments.

According to the Ranking Member, these concerns signal potential government actions that could erode the standards of Ghana's security apparatus.

“What we built over the years is called Ghana Armed Forces. They are formidable and have solid, reputable and meritorious entry requirements for all Ghanaians regardless [of] party affiliation. We will not allow this government to turn it into NDC Foot Soldier Forces. Create jobs for your aged party foot soldiers. Ghana Armed Forces is a no-go area!!” he stated in another post.
