Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, running mate to John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is urging the electorate to vote the NDC back to power to rebuild the economy.

“The NDC will restore hope and rebuild the economy to meet the aspirations of Ghanaians,” she said at a durbar of Chiefs at Denkyira Bibianiha in the Upper Denkyira East Constituency of the Central Region, on Wednesday, at the start of her regional campaign tour.

Her remark was in response to concerns raised by the Chief of Denkyira Bibianiha, Nana Appiah Kubi, about the poverty and frustration of the youth in the area as a result of their joblessness.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is in her home region to galvanize the base of the party and promote Mr. Mahama’s policies following her introduction to the Central Regional House of Chiefs by the flagbearer on Tuesday.

According to her, the 24-hour economy policy envisioned by the next NDC government would be a key component of the agenda to rescue and reset the country from the effects of economic mismanagement by the present government and create jobs for the youth.

To this end, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, a former Minister of Education, urged all organizations to prepare and actively take part in the incoming national 24-hour economy when the NDC assumes power.

She explained that apart from providing benefits to companies in the form of tax waivers, reduced tariff rates, and increased productivity, the job shift system under the policy would create more employment and financial independence for workers and households.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who had interacted with traders at the market in the town, noted that it is the duty of the government to provide the needed support, including credit, to enable small-scale enterprises to grow.

In addition, she said it was the duty of the government to provide the necessary infrastructure that would facilitate the rapid development of areas such as Dunkwa and Denkyira.

She reminded the chiefs that all the major infrastructure projects such as roads, health centers, and schools were provided under the previous NDC governments, and therefore urged them to vote massively for the NDC to continue its good works in the area.

“We have done it before, and you can trust us to do it again for you,” she said.

Nana Appiah Kubi, Chief of Denkyira Bibianiha, in his remarks earlier, assured the NDC of the support of the chiefs and people of the area “because we desire economic development of the area.”
