Striking teachers say forcing them to go back to the classroom in compliance with the court order secured by the National Labour Commission will be inimical.

They’ve threatened not to teach if their grievances are not addressed.

The National Labour Commission (NLC) on Wednesday secured an injunction to compel the striking teacher unions to immediately resume work.

The court order also barred the teachers from continuing with the strike which has been in effect since Monday.

Three Teacher Unions in the country declared strike over unpaid allowances which dates back as far as 2016.

The unions are the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT).

Speaking to Starr News to the President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, King Ali Awudu forcing teachers to return to the classroom will not help the pupils and students in any way.

“What people do not know is that you can force the horse to the riverside by you can’t force it to drink water. The worst alternate is going to happen, for you to use some crude Machiavellian tactics to force to teachers to go to the classroom and then they will go and teach the students either the wrong thing or get to the classroom and not teach and that one will worst of it all.”

“You compel the teacher to school, are you there with him or her in the classroom? That is what they have to think about it’s not about compelling the teacher to go to the classroom. It is about meeting the demands of the teacher in the classroom or at least making sure that you sit down and say something which touching and understandable,” King Ali Awudu stated.
