The Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service has indicated that it will still continue to use sirens in its core duties.

Yesterday President Mahama directed a strict adherence to the rules governing the use of sirens during peak periods.

The directive was aimed at checking individuals and some security personnel who abuse the use of sirens.

But speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show this morning, head of Training and Research at the MTTU, DSP Alexander Obeng explained that the MTTU will ensure that it does not abuse its privileges.

“This incident of police motor vehicles with siren and top lights being blared will continue. What is important is that we have resolved to deliver services in real time,” he stated.

DSP Obeng further explained, “In urban areas like Accra when they are called anytime; day or night, the police is always at someone’s doorstep and the law mandates us that we should use our vehicles whenever there is an emergency call for official duties and when we are pursuing a violator of crime.”

We are saying that the Police should not abuse it,” he added.
