Webster University Ghana, has out-doored two more Dream Ambassadors, saying young people in the country have what it takes to achieve their dreams if only they reach for it.
The University, which was accredited to operate in Ghana in 2013, recently launched the Webster Dream Ambassadors series, in a bid to encourage young people and to sensitize them to know that their ‘dreams are within reach!’
The series, seek to present the lives, experiences and inspirations of successful West Africans, highlight how their innate desire to succeed guarded and guided their accomplishments, and started with three ambassadors: Derrydean Dadzie of DreamOval Limited, Anita Erskine-Amaizo, communications Strategist and Opy Onas, Author, Speaker and entrepreneur.
The two new Dream Ambassadors are Pearl Amoah, a Fashion designer who started her career as a model and who has travelled widely and worked with top brands including Prada, Gucci and Roberto Cavalli, and Andrew Ackah-Managing Director of Premier Media Company and General Manager of MediaCom Ghana.
The University posts online videos of these Dream Ambassadors in which they talk about where they started, how far they have come, and challenges they faced along the way, as well as their highs on the journey to the achievement of their dreams.
Mr Ken Wichert, Director of Enrolment Management at Webster University Ghana, noted that the initiative was not so much an effort to increase enrollment, as it was an effort to change the mind-sets of people and to get them to reach within themselves in order to achieve their goals, and also ‘that many of them will see university education as a means to achieve that’.
“We have several billboard advertisements and have placed some in newspapers, but we wanted to try something different, to make it realistic to the people. Since it was launched two months ago, we have had over 7,000 views and we’re thrilled to think we may have struck a chord in the African market,” he stated.
He stated that the University would also organise a DREAMS workshop in the fall of 2014; around October or November, which would be opened to the public, and would teach participants how to form an action plan around their goals and to execute that plan.
Webster University Ghana offers Ghanaians and other West Africans the opportunity to get American degrees both at undergraduate and graduate levels, right on the continent in Accra, Ghana. It offers four-year Bachelor’s Degree courses in Management, International Relations, Media Communications with reduced time for A-Level or IB results and transfer students (University and HND) and fourteen months Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Arts in International Relations (MA).
The University tailors its courses and classes to ensure success, by having small class numbers and personalized courses, as well as making class schedules convenient for students. Students, who for one reason or the other cannot complete the course in the normal time can defer their courses for a semester or term and continue at their convenience where they left off.
Also, in order to allow more deserving students the chance to get their degrees, Webster offers automatic bursaries to Ghanaian students of about 30 per cent of tuition fees and the opportunity for them and other students to apply for scholarships of 10-50 percent based on merit and financial need. Also, students get the chance after their first semester in Ghana, to study at any of Webster’s campuses abroad for a semester, with air fares paid by the university.
“Webster does not just produce students with degrees but rather cultured and globally aware graduates prepared to make an immediate impact in their fields of study.”
