Baffour Abuko Kofi II, Chief of Anum-Asikuma in the Eastern Region, has expressed worry over the high rate of “wee” smoking among the youth in his traditional area.

“I have sleepless nights thinking about the things that go on in this town which are not good for development; ‘wee’ smoking is becoming too much among the youth,” he said.

Baffour Abuko Kofi was addressing the youth during the inauguration of the Anum-Asikuma Youth Association on Thursday.

It was part of activities to mark the chief’s 20th anniversary of his installation.

He said he was going to employ the services of some members of the Narcotics Control Board and role models to educate the youth on the dangers of drugs to help them to desist from that act.

The Chief urged the youth to lead responsible lives to qualify them to lead the area and the nation in the future and added “I see a vibrant youth who will lead the future of this town and the preparation starts from now.”

Inaugurating the youth association, Mr Eric Bortey, Eastern Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), urged the youth to remain patriotic to the town and Ghana as whole.

He called on them to take their education and work serious since it is that which would determine their success in life in the future.

“Do not be afraid to do all it takes to ensure development for you and for this area; it is those who do nothing that do no mistakes,” he said.
