Accra, June 3, GNA - Heavy rains, which have continued since Saturday afternoon, have been recorded all over the country, the Meteorological Services Agency told the Ghana News Agency at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday.

Officials of the Agency said the rains stretched form the northern part of the country through the middle belt to the southern or coastal belt.

Saturday's rain caused severe flooding of several parts in Accra with the police confirming the loss of lives.

Describing what the weather would look like for the week, the officials said for the coastal belt, the mornings would be fairly cloudy with rain showers whilst the afternoons could be sunny. They said the middle belt and the northern sector could expect fairly cloudy skies with intermittent sunshine, adding that a windy atmosphere could also pertain.

Storms are expected to affect the northern and middle belts of the country between Tuesday and Wednesday and also from Friday to Sunday, the officials said.

They said the rainy season was expected to last till the later part of July during which a short break known as the "little dry season," would take place to herald the minor rainy season.
