The leadership of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it holds no qualms against its own stalwart Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby who has challenged the party to provide evidence to support its allegation of electoral fraud against the Electoral Commission.

Dr. Wereko-Brobby told the Daily Graphic that demonstrations and agitations by angry members and leaders of the party cannot make up for the needed evidence to prove the party’s rigging allegations against the EC and the ruling party.

But the Party’s first Vice Chairman Fred Oware has described Dr. Wereko-Brobby’s arguments as laughable.

“I pick no bones with Wereko-Brobby but to suggest that the polling agents did not do their work well and therefore we don’t have any case and it’s pointless to pursue our rights, I consider that a bit laughable.

“Anybody who says lets sleeping dogs lie, I don’t think that person is thinking about the development of the society, we are not just fighting for one person to be declared the winner but we are also seeking to have reforms in our electoral system” Mr. Fred Oware said.

Meanwhile, Political Scientist Kwesi Amakye says inasmuch as Dr. Wereko-Brobby may have a point, the decision by the NPP to go to court could serve the country’s democracy a lot of good.

According to him, believes the decision of the Supreme Court will further deepen the democratic system of Ghana and get aggrieved parties to appreciate the outcome of the electoral process.

The KNUST Lecturer however warned that the NPP risks losing public sympathy in its cause if the leadership fails to control its agitated supporters who intend demonstrating in Kumasi on Tuesday.
