West African Traditional Leaders meeting cancelled

Accra, July 20, GNA - The first ever meeting of West African Traditional Leaders scheduled to be held in Ghana from July 23 to 25 has been postponed indefinitely, organizers said on Monday.

Mr Bright Blewu, General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), told the media in Accra that the meeting had been postponed after waiting for an hour for a press conference scheduled for 0930 hours at the International Press Centre.

The Press conference was to brief the media on the preparations towards the meeting.

Mr Blewu explained that due a hitch from unexplained circumstances, "the meeting would have to be postponed indefinitely whilst a new date would be fixed and communicated to you".

The meeting, which was jointly organized by Ghana's National House of Chiefs, the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture and the Libyan government would have had participating chiefs arriving on Wednesday, July 22 and departing on Saturday, July 25.

The meeting meant for Kings, Sultans and Chiefs would have discussed African Unity and Integration. The announcement came after Professor John Nabila, Chairman of the National House of chiefs, Ms Samia Nkrumah, a Parliamentarian, The Deputy Minister of Tourism and other representatives of the various Houses of Chiefs had met at the International Press Centre.
