West African sub-region unstable with two major storms - Meteo

Accra, March 29, GNA - The West African sub-region is very unstable with two major storms, one tracking over the Gulf of Guinea and the other on land over the Niger Delta, the Meteorological Service said on Monday. The Service said as a result, it will be cloudy, with scattered thunderstorms over the coastal belt Monday morning or in the afternoon. The inland, especially the forest and hilly areas will also benefit from these developments later in the day.

It said areas that will not be affected much from these systems will experience sunny and windy conditions in the afternoon. However after the passage of these systems the night will be fairly stable over southern Ghana with isolated thunderstorms over high grounds. Northern Ghana is still dry and will remain slightly hazy but visibility values will be fairly good during the forecast period. The afternoon will be very hot with the possibility of light showers occurring over its southern fringes Monday night.

Maximum and minimum temperatures between 0600 hours on Monday and 0600 on Thursday were given as: coastal areas, between 32 and 27 degrees Celsius, forest and mountainous areas, between 34 and 25 degrees Celsius and Northern Ghana, between 40 and 28 degrees Celsius.
