West Akyem connected to the Internet

Asamankese (E/R), May 2, GNA - The West Akyem District Assembly is now connected to the Internet through a VSAT equipment installed at the District Administration.

According to the District Chief Executive, Mr Umar Amoah, the Assembly's website had also been launched with its web address being http://wada-gh.741.com/.

He expressed satisfaction that the District had been placed on the electronic super highway.

The DCE, who announced this at a public forum at Asamankese on Friday, noted that communication facilities in the District had been greatly expanded.

Mr Amoah said Spacefon-Areba was in operation in and around Asamankese, Mobitel (BUZZ) was also in full operation while Ghana Telecom had expanded its networks with as many as 25 pay-booths across the District.

He observed that with such networks operating in the area and the proximity of the District to Accra, opportunities were further opened for investors to take advantage of the District's potentials. The DCE hinted that a Business Advisory Centre had been located in the Ministry of Food and Agriculture premises to provide assistance to any investors in the District.

Mr Amoah said the Centre was expected to become the hub of all business data and should be in a position to provide advice to all potential investors, especially when the Rural Enterprises Project took off.

He said the Centre had been made possible through collaboration between the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) and the Assembly.

Umar Amoah noted that with the location of the District as a trade and tourist route, coupled with the vast potentials in communication systems, it was proposed to organize an investment fair to place the District on a higher pedestal to attract more investment. Mr Amoah said to this end, the Aworotenteng Falls at Kobriso and Kwaku Sae Falls, together with other tourist sites, would be properly exposed and that investors were invited to take advantage of the situation to boost the tourist industry in the District.
