The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the West Gonja Municipal Assembly of the Savannah Region, Mr Saeed Muhazu Jibril Jegede has on 7th May, 2020 presented Personal Protective Equipments (PPE’s) on behalf of the assembly to the West Gonja Health Directorate in Damongo to help fight COVID-19 in the Municipality.
Speaking at a brief ceremony at the premises of the West Gonja Municipal Assembly in Damongo to hand over the equipments, the MCE said it is the collective responsibility of every organisation including the various Municipal and District Assembllies (MDCE’s) to help equip the health facilities to help in the fight against the deadly disease.
He said even though what the municipality is presenting to them is not enough it will go a long way to help them reach out the various health facilities in the municipality.
Mr Jibril further acknowledged the efforts of the Municipal Health Directorate headed by Hajia Sulemana Fuseina for their role so far in helping fight the deadly disease and again praised God because the region is yet to record a case.
The equipments presented to the health directorate include 10 infrared thermometer guns, 5 movable rechargeable megaphones, 2,200 pieces of nose masks, 29 waste bins and a bale of cloth which the MCE said should be health Directorate should use to produce nosemasks by Local dressmakers to be distributed free of charge in the markets, lorry stations etc with the assembly taken up lthe cost.
Meanwhile the West Gonja MCE disclosed to the media that a total of 10 polythanks filled with water will be put at the entrance of markets and Lorry stations in the municipality on daily basis alongside soap for people to wash their hands when entering and leaving those places.
He said some of the tanks will be sent to Larabanga, Busunu and other communities in the municipality.
The Municipal Health Director of the West Gonja Municipality, Hajia Sulemana Fuseina expressed much gratitude to the Assembly for the donation especially the gun thermometers which she said was a big problem to her outfit because of the cost involved in purchasing them.
She said there are 26 health facilities in the Municipality including the West Gonja Catholic Hospital but they have only 6 thermometer guns including an additional 2 donated by the Member of Parliament for Damongo making them 8 in number which is still inadequate for the directorate.
She said the donation will boost their efforts in curbing the COVID-19 pandemic and again used the opportunity to appeal to everybody to adhere to the practices put in place to help in protecting themselves against the spread of the disease.
