The Western Naval Command has appealed to the new Chief of Naval staff to help address the numerous challenges been faced by the command.

Flag officer commander, Commodore Osei Kuffuor, identified accommodation, transportation and navy land issues as some of the challenges hindering the smooth discharge of duties at the naval base.

He said this during a briefing session with the new chief of Naval staff, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, at the Sekondi Naval Base.

Commodore Osei Kuffour said the structures of the Western Naval Command (WNC) were all dilapidated and needed to be renovated.

He stressed that the state of the accommodation structures had made it impossible to house staff officers and recruits.

Commodore Osei Kuffour, however, stated that the command had plans of renovating old buildings such as the Caprice accommodation in Accra and Otu complex to accommodate more officers.

He indicated that most navy lands had been taken over by encroachers due to the lack of proper documentation and stressed that it had been a major challenge to the command.

He hinted that efforts were been made to secure all available navy lands by fencing the property to prevent encroachers from taking over.

He added that inadequate transportation facilities had been an impediment in the discharge of their duties and, therefore, appealed to the government and other corporate bodies to come to their aid in their quest to mobilise funds for the projects.

The New chief of naval staff, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, pledged to do his best in addressing all the catalogued challenges.

He said the President would commission new sets of vehicles on the February 13, 2019 and it would help solve some aspect of the transportation challenges faced by the command.

The new chief of naval staff paid a maiden visit to the Western Naval Command to familiarise himself with the activities of the base, as well as to interact with personnel and civilian employees in order to know the major concerns of the command.
