KWAME KINTO STRESSING A POINT

The Western Regional Organiser of the New Patriotic Party Kwame Kinto has warned the ruling National Democratic Congress led by President John Dramani Mahama of an unprecedented defeat in the general elections come December 7.

Speaking on Multi TV’s current affairs programme, Minority Caucus, Kwame Kinto said the NDC’s gargantuan defeat will come about because of the many lies and deceit that the people of the western region have suffered under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama. He said the many broken promises and poor management of social intervention policies such as the NHIS and NYEP which the NDC inherited from President Kufuor’s NPP has led to mass poverty and suffering in the region. “Today people are borrowing money not to expand their businesses but rather to pay school fees of their wards and when they cannot pay back, they commit suicide” he lamented.

Kwame Kinto recalled then vice-presidential candidate John Mahama’s promise of 10% of oil revenue to the chiefs and people of the western region, only to turn around after winning the elections to say he never said that. “These NDC people are very amazing. They tell lies which even children cannot believe, yet they expect us the adults to believe them” he said. “The NDC think we the “westerners” are gullible and so can come here and make empty promises, but we will teach them a lesson this time” he stated.

According to the NPP Western Regional Organiser, though the NDC won as many as 11, out of the 22 constituencies in the Western Region, the Party refused to find it proper to appoint any of the region’s representative to Cabinet especially when a significant percentage of the nation’s resources is coming from that region. He assured the people of the region of adequate representation in the administration of President Nana Akufo-Addo, to ensure that their interests are adequately catered for.

Nana Kwame Kinto also touched on the fast dwindling fortunes in the cocoa industry. He attributed the reduction in cocoa production to what he termed” arrogant smuggling” of insecticides and fertilizers meant for local farmers, by senior operatives of the NDC. “The result is the decline in cocoa production which, coupled with the low price being paid by this government, has further impoverished the people”.

He assured the farming community of the Western Region of higher cocoa yields, better prices and a general improvement in their standard of living, under the presidency of Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo. “We have done it before under President Kufuor, and we will do it again under Nana Akufo-Addo” he said.

Nana Kinto urged “westerners” in the Sefwi “Districts” who have been voting for the NDC in the past to sway to the NPP and experience real good governance including free basic education to SHS level under an Akufo-Addo government.
