For the first time since its establishment in 2010, the Weta Senior High Technical School has held its first Speech and Prize Giving Day Ceremony.
With the district having endured a fairly average academic output, the new paramount chief of the Weta Traditional area, Torgbui Ashiakpor VI has committed to improve education in the area.
The occasion was used to launch an academic excellence awards scheme for which the Member of Parliament for the constituency contributed money from the common fund to support the project.
Awards were given to top performances of the various departments of the school.
The highlight of the event was when the paramount chief and opinion leaders of the Weta traditional area promised to sponsor an outstanding outgoing student with tertiary school education. The General Arts student, Wonder Ahiakpe passed with an aggregate 7 but lacked sufficient funds to support his tertiary education.
The Paramount Chief of the Weta traditional area, Torgbuiga Ashiakpor VI entreated constituents of the community to endeavour to support this laudable initiative of boosting education in the area.
The Member of Parliament for Ketu North constituency, Hon. Dr. James Klutse Avedzi said it is an honour supporting this laudable initiative and would continue to position himself to provide any needed assistance.
In a speech read on her behalf, Director of GES, Ketu North municipal Assembly, Esi Ashiagbor said, the Ghana Education Service is putting in place measures that will provide an enabling environment for students to reach their full potential.
Headmaster of Weta Senior High Technical School, Samuel Doe Alorvuia, appreciated the unifying effort from the traditional rulers and representatives from the Government in collaborating with the school’s administration to initiate this scheme.
He said he is optimistic schemes like this would go a long way to improve the academic performance of students, because awards are strong motivators.
