Weta Traditional Council sets up Covid-19 Fund

The Weta Traditional Council in the Volta region has set up a fund in support of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the president of the council, Torgbui Akpo Ashiakpor VI, the fund would be used to purchase food items and PPEs for the vulnerable within the traditional area.

Torgbuiga noted that, the pandemic has brought some severe economic implications to his people, especially the disabled, widows and the aged thus, the need to support them.

"We know that the pandemic has come with some economic implications that could lead to hunger and so, we would have to start something on our own towards supporting the disabled, widows and the aged," he noted.

He added that, "I have set aside a token of Gh¢1,000 for that fund and responses I am getting from well-meaning citizens meant that we would be getting enough to kick-start the sharing of food items and the nose masks to our people.

He has urged natives of Weta and all other areas within the jurisdictions of the council to come and support with resources to carry out the project.

The council has also urged bereaved families to go ahead and organize private burials for their dead relatives, with limited numbers as directed by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
