Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on newly qualified medical doctors to dedicate their expertise to underserved communities, reminding them that the core of their profession is service to humanity.
Speaking at the 6th Congregation and 10th Anniversary celebration of the Accra College of Medicine (ACM) on Saturday, December 6, 2025, she urged the graduates to uphold empathy, professionalism and a strong sense of national responsibility as they begin their careers.
In a citinewsroom report on December 7, 2025, Prof Opoku-Agyemang noted that several parts of the country continue to grapple with limited access to healthcare, stressing that young doctors have a crucial role to play in addressing these disparities.

“Your profession and training come with a duty to serve not just where it is easiest but where you are most needed,” she said, adding that improving healthcare delivery requires practitioners who prioritise impact over personal convenience.
She further encouraged the new doctors to honour the principles of the Hippocratic Oath by committing to compassion, equity and respect for the dignity of all patients.
“You are entering a service built on service, equity and courage,” she stated. “Let your choices not only reflect your ambition, but also the oath that you have taken, which is to go where suffering is, go where healing is scarce, and to honour the trust Ghana has placed in your hands.”
