Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has reaffirmed his commitment to the Family Values Bill, which he and seven colleagues first introduced in Parliament in 2021.

Speaking on BBC Newsday on February 12, 2026, George explained that the bill was previously passed by Parliament but was not signed into law by the former president. He reintroduced it after his party came into government.

George emphasised that his advocacy for the bill is in his capacity as a Member of Parliament, not as a Minister of State.

“It is critical legislation that I have sponsored, and my priorities remain the same. We must protect the innocence of Ghanaian children,” he said.

Responding to concerns from civil society and LGBTQ+ advocates, George insisted that the bill does not promote stigma.

He said it includes provisions against verbal and financial assault on homosexual individuals, describing it as “a very balanced bill.”

He noted that the majority of his constituents support the legislation as reflecting Ghana’s cultural and social values.

Addressing potential economic concerns, George clarified that warnings from a 2024 Finance Ministry directorate regarding the bill’s impact on international support were disputed by the then finance minister and do not reflect the government’s current position.

He highlighted improvements in Ghana’s economy under the current administration, including reduced inflation and a stronger currency.

George stressed that his fidelity to his faith and commitment to protecting the innocence of Ghanaian children remain unshaken.

“My fidelity to my faith and my commitment to protecting the innocence of Ghanaian children remain unshaken. Once the bill is laid, I will lead the advocacy to ensure it is passed again,” he indicated.
