What and who is Ghanaweb, my man?

Tue, 8 Jun 2004 Source: KwahuBoy

I arrived in Ghana on May 22, 2004.

My next day was life as usual and fortunately for me I was at the "Elimat" restaurant at East Cantonments with my brothers having a funeral discussion over some drinks and in walked Kofi Wayo of all people to join us at our table, I was shocked at that and thanked God for giving me the opportunity to meet this man who has been on every Ghanaian's mind as being a different person and some "messiah" to some people.

I seized the opportunity whilst conversing with Mr Wayo and asked him if he is aware of how he is being portrayed on Ghanaweb? Below is part of our conversation

KwahuBoy: Do you know you are all over the internet spefically Ghanaweb?

Mr Wayo: What and who is Ghanaweb, my man?

KB: It's an internet website geared mainly to Ghana and Ghanaian affairs. (I realised right away that this guy does not even know what the internet is.)

MW: Oh I see, I dont know of any internet website.

KB: Hmmmm!! anyway you said you are standing to be the next President of Ghana, are you a US citizen or a Ghanaian cititizen?

MW: I was born in Ghana and was adopted by a US general of the 82nd Airborne and lived all my life on the army base in Georgi4*9o and if I am attacked right now the US Govt will send a contingent of the 82nd Airborne personnel to blow up the damn place and snatched me away. I just came from the village of Abelemkpe and people are dieing of starvation.... ( and he went on and on like every politician does, thereby dodging the actual question of citizenship that I asked.)

I was so amused by this man who kept on drinking our whisky and uttering jokes upon jokes of the average Ghanaian life.

.... "There is no wife at home because, according to Kofi Wayo who rattles his American-style English with the speed of a football commentator, his wife collapsed when she first saw the toilets at Nima, the suburb in Accra where he grew up.

After recovery his American wife, Tamra and his two children, Mera, 16, and Niki-Poo, 14, went back to the States and decided never to come back until conditions in Accra improve. Chuck claims that it is one of the reasons why he has to fight to get things better in the country so his wife and children will not cringe from coming back home. ...... READ MORE
