The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has expressed concerns about the politicisation of state institutions.

According to him, the politicisation of these institutions involved in the December elections under the ruling NPP government does not inspire confidence that the will of Ghanaians would be allowed to prevail.

“The politicisation of the Electoral Commission, the Supreme Court, and other state institutions involved in the December elections under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration are developments that do not inspire confidence that the will of the people would be allowed to prevail,” Mahama quoted.

Reacting to news of a recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump, Mahama asserted the importance of ensuring a violence-free and peaceful election, along with a smooth transition.

In a write-up on johnmahama.org, Mahama said “While the US sits on a knife edge, an assassination attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump has complicated what was already a tense political atmosphere. The incident is still being investigated for motive, but it demonstrates the possible outturn of intense electoral passions and enthusiasm, even in the world's most powerful democracy.

“What happened in Pennsylvania makes me think even more about the upcoming elections in our country and what we must do to have free, peaceful elections and a smooth transition,” he said.

Mahama urged Ghanaians to maintain vigilance to protect the country’s enviable history of justice and freedom. He further advocated for peace and civility in political discourse ahead of the December polls to avoid issues that could incite violence.
