Why Akufo-Addo appointed numerous ministers – Sammi Awuku explains

Director General for the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and an aid to the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku has explained the reason behind the appointment of numerous ministers and ministries by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo increased the number of ministries and ministers during his tenure because he believed there was too much work to be done.

Sammi Awuku indicated that currently, the work that was expected to be done has been achieved, and therefore, in the next NPP administration, there will be consolidation.

He said this is why Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said he would not need a huge number of ministers and ministries in his administration.

“For the takeoff in 2017, we had to break down some of the ministries for the effective running of the government machinery. The wisdom of the president was that we should make sure we’ve broken it down for us to share the work that we had to do for the country."

“Dr. Bawumia believes that in the next NPP administration, there will have to be some consolidation. Some of the ministries will have to merge. When the NPP rolls out its manifesto, we will talk about these things in order to ensure that a clear understanding is achieved,” he said.
