Why Alleged Coup Plotter was Retired

.... RAWLINGS LIFE NOW IN DANGER AS PEACE SEEKERS INTERNATIONAL PLOT TO KILL HIM

Investigations by the newspaper NATIONAL DEMOCRAT has revealed that the woes of Lt. Col. Gbevlo-Lartey, former commander of the 64 batallion of the Ghana Armed Forces is an attempt to get him out of the way in order for former President Rawlings to be assassinated.

Behind the scene investigations revealed that those behind the plot are some former Ghanaian military men who have formed an organization called the Peace Seekers International (PSI).

Among the names the NATIONAL DEMOCRAT can authoratively state as being behind the planned murder of Rawlings are Capt. Ampofo, Capt. Ben Otoo, Squadron leader Kutin and Major Suleimanu.

According to the paper, these men worked actively together in the eighties to either overthrow the PNDC regime or assassinate the then chairman of PNDC, Flt. Lt. J.J. Rawlings.

Their plots however failed and thus had no choice than to go into exile. Now back home, they are bent on assassinating Rawlings to settle old scores.

It is also believed that Gbevlo-Lartey can easily move a large segment of the army against the government should the attempt on Rawlings life fail or succeed.

Therefore, in order to get Gbevlo-Lartey out of the way to ensure that there ‘ll be no retribution from him when they fail or succeed, a plot was hatched to implicate him in a coup plot that will see him being arrested and jailed.
