A former National Organiser of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Desmond Nana Ntow Amirekyi, has explained why he won't offer free rides to nurses and police officers.

According to him, their lackadaisical attitude and unwillingness to help when approached in hospitals are major factors.

Speaking on UTV’s morning show, he said, “If I am driving and I see a nurse, I don't give them a lift. When I go to the hospital and see how they treat people, I vowed not to give nurses and police officers a lift.

"When you are in need of help and you go to them, they ignore you. Sometimes, when you take a patient to the hospital and the nurses need to attend to them, you find them watching TikTok and Facebook. If I were an administrator, I would ban the use of phones until you close from work,” he added.

Amirekyi's remarks came in response to a shocking incident at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

The hospital, located in the Central Region, allegedly discharged a patient and left her in a bush after failing to identify her family members.

The patient, believed to be in her late 60s, with a Plaster of Paris (POP) cast on her legs, was found abandoned in a bush at Gomoa Ojobi.

According to police sources, the victim had been receiving treatment at Winneba Trauma Hospital after being involved in an accident.
