The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, has given reasons for the disqualification of some presidential hopefuls.
According to her, they were disqualified due to incomplete registration details and their inability to meet other requirements by the EC.
Addressing a news conference on Friday, September 20, 2024, Jean Mensa stated that," Ms Jane Nabla used registration details of particular voters in a particular district to support her nomination. Again, the Vice-presidential candidate did not sign her nomination form, the issues were however not resolved and the committee recommended that she be disqualified.
"Desmond Kwame Abrefa, an independent candidate also used registration details of particular voters in a district to support his nomination. He was not able to resolve it, and the committee recommended that he be disqualified."
She continued "Nana Stephens Agyapong, also used registration details of particular voters in a district to support his nomination in other districts. In addition, he had incomplete particulars of supporters.
“Mr. Bernard Mornah also had incomplete particulars of supporters, he also used registered voters in a particular district to support his nomination in other districts.
“His form also contained varying signatures for the same supporters and in some cases the same signature for the different supporters. The committee is of the view that he should be disqualified.”
She noted that although the EC provided ample time for all disqualified candidates to rectify the issues identified in their submissions, they were unable to meet the requirements.
Other candidates who were affected by the EC’s decision are Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong, John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi, Dr. Samuel Sampong Ankrah, and Nii Amu Darko.
Additionally, Samuel Apea-Danquah, Desmond Abrefah, and Kofi Asamoah Siaw of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) were also disqualified from the race.
The EC said the filing fees of the disqualified candidates would be refunded to them.
