General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has encouraged new and old supporters of the party to register or update their membership ahead of its internal elections.

According to him, the move is aimed at accommodating people who have recently reached voting age, as well as, former members who want to become more active in the party.

“Well, because if you're willing to have the executives elected at a branch level, you need to ensure that we, first of all, don't forget a number of people want to join you.

“Some people have come to the voting age, and they want to be much more active in the party. Possibly there are people who, in the past, used to be inactive but now want to be much more active, so they want to pick up registration and then join actively to be members of the party," he remarked in a recent interview with Joy News.

Fifi Kwetey noted that the NDC’s recent electoral victory has made the party more attractive to potential members.

“You also must appreciate that having won an election, you've also become much more attractive to some people.

“You want a cushion. Exactly. You want to give room to as many people as possible who want to be on the train to come up,” he noted.

He stressed that the objective is to ensure broad participation and strong attendance at the branch level.

“So that's all part of the process of ensuring that we have a big attendance. And definitely the party looks more attractive now,” he said.

Beyond winning the election, Kwetey indicated that the party’s conduct in government and its commitment to fulfilling promises have contributed to its growing appeal.

“Not just because we won, but also because of the way we are conducting ourselves in government, the way the party is ensuring that we try hard to keep faith with promises we've made,” he stated.

He stated that maintaining internal discipline is also a key factor.

“We try to keep the discipline within the party itself. And I think that is all part of the reason why a lot more people might want to join us," he added.

The NDC is scheduled to hold its National Congress on December 19, 2026, to elect a new National Executive Committee, following regional elections in November 2026 to choose regional executives and constituency elections in October 2026.
