Samuel Darko is the Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the OSP
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has reacted to assertions that its decision to declare former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, wanted is wrong because it did not do so for Samuel Mahama in its investigation into the Airbus Scandal.
A section of the public has said that the OSP could have gone to the United States (US) to interview Ofori-Atta, just as it went to the United Kingdom (UK) to interview Samuel Mahama, a brother of President John Dramani Mahama, who was involved in the Airbus scandal.
Speaking in a panel discussion on JoyNews’ NewsFile, on June 7, 2025, the Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the OSP, Samuel Darko, said that an INTERPOL notice was issued for Samuel Mahama.
He said that the only reason the OSP went to the UK to continue its investigation was because the security authorities did not want to extradite Samuel.
“This assertion, which is beginning to gain ground, is that why is it that the OSP travelled to the United Kingdom? It's important that we also deal with it because it's been thrown about as if we are very unfair and unreasonable.
“The OSP had issued an INTERPOL notice for four British citizens, including Samuel Mahama. And it had become apparent to us after five years or more that the UK authorities were unwilling to enforce the extradition because they were British citizens," he said.
He added, “So, there had to be mutual agreement for us to be able to go onto their soil and do the investigation. You know, you cannot just go to another country and just start doing an investigation. It's unlawful. You can't do that.”
