Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah says he cannot understand why members of the National Democratic Congress [NDC] keep fighting against the new voters' register which the Electoral Commission says will make the 2020 general elections transparent and more credible.

“Frankly, I don’t want to be tagged as talking for the EC. What is the problem of the members of the largest opposition party against the Electoral Commission’s new register compilation when it is the work of the EC to take decisions within their confinements that they believe will make their work easy. Whether they will do that in two or one month to the elections, what is your beef in this?” he said.

According to him the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) should rather be fighting against the new register compilation since it made them win the last General Elections in 2016 with an unimaginable margin.

Referencing past elections, the Tema West MP insisted that the NDC before the 2012 elections added 45 new constituencies to the already existing voters' register within two to three months to the general elections even though other political parties strongly objected against it with facts.

Carlos Ahenkorah cited on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ political segment programme that opposition parties demonstrating against the EC should bear in mind that the Inter-Party Advisory Committee [IPAC] and other stakeholder engagements in connection with the EC has no authority over it.

He has aasked all political parties to desist from attacking the personality of the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa.
