The chilling, conflicting details surrounding the kidnapping of Sylvia Patience Baah, the Airport Services Manager of Emirates Airlines, that have emerged so far have left Ghanaians on social media in a state of shock and frenzy.
This has caused Sylvia Baah and the National Security to trend on X for Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
Sylvia Baah was declared missing by the Ghana Police Service after allegedly being abducted from the entrance of her residence in Accra on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
She was later reportedly rescued by the police, who assured the public that they are actively searching for the suspects responsible for the crime and are committed to apprehending them.
However, a report by The Herald newspaper alleged that certain national security officials were behind the kidnapping.
According to the report, Sylvia Baah was abducted as a form of punishment for allegedly failing to delay a flight for some individuals associated with national security.
The National Security has since strongly denied these allegations.
The events of the past 24 hours have raised serious concerns among Ghanaians about the potential abuse of power by certain state officials and apparatchiks.
While some believe the allegations against national security are true, making reference to an alleged kidnap of Bongo Ideas, a staunch online critic of the government and a social media influencer, by some powerful individuals, other netizens argue that the entire incident could have been staged.
Netizens have also raised concerns about the lack of progress from the Ghana Police Service in capturing the suspected culprits behind the kidnapping.
Here are some of the tweets under the trending topic below:
How can the Ministry wish to categorically state that no officer from the Ministry or the National Intelligence Bureau was involved in the alleged abduction of Sylvia Baah while investigation is now set to be conducted?

How can you draw a conclusion before you conduct research?
Cunning Sylvia Baah has made many enemies because she is powerful enough to get people at the airport transferred at the least provocation. pic.twitter.com/UMeHT0yRbe

I'm starting to wonder the number of people who have been picked up and abused by these fools but never got justice cos of their status in society. https://t.co/2SEAV9TG46
The abuse of power is getting ridiculous. Traumatised someone because they were doing their job? https://t.co/94Yyx3BubE

She is strict. I was once late and she refused me boarding. She was professional about it and booked me on the next flight. Aviation standards shouldn't be to 'order from above zombies'.
