Winneba, June 27, GNA - The Chiefs and the people of the Effutu Traditional Area have appealed against the decision of the Agona Swedru High Court that the Winneba-Junction area, belong to the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional area.
The appeal followed the performance of customary rites by the Chiefs and the people of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area last Thursday 22 June 2006, at the Winneba-Junction to officially takeover the land. Neenyi Kojo Beedu, Chief of Kojo Beedu, a suburb of Winneba announced this at an emergency meeting of the Chiefs and some elders of the Asafo Companies at Winneba.
He said the Omanhene of the Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey VII, who took the matter to Court, has appealed against the ruling. Neenyi Beedu said it was unfortunate that the Gomoas had forgotten about the committee set up by the government and chaired by Justice C.E. H. Coussey to investigate the boundary demarcation in 1993 ruled in favour of the Effutu Traditional Area and the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly.
He expressed the hope that the Appeals Court would finally bring peace and stability between the two Traditional Areas and the District Assemblies to enhance development. Neenyi Beedu regretted the lukewarm attitude on the part of Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly towards the matter.
