Winneba (Central Region), 23, Sept. The Winneba District branch of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) has launched a long-term sanitation campaign to promote awareness of environmental cleanliness among the people. The District Chief Executive, Lieutenant Daniel William Osardu (rtd)who launched the programme at Winneba yesterday after a three- hour clean-up exercise, said the best contribution Ghanaians could offer to enhance the country's health system was to maintain a clean environment. Lt Osardu expressed concern about the indifference of some fishermen, farmers and traders in the district towards sanitation programmes and urged them to take a keen interest in maintaining a healthy environment. He said they could save a lot of money to support the education of their children and the maintenance of the home if they adopt preventive health measures, including environmental sanitation. Lt Osardu commended members of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the GRCS, cadres and supporters of the Progressive Alliance who took part in the exercise and asked them to spread the message of the importance of environmental cleanliness.
