Accra, Sept. 3, GNA - Mr Kwadwo Darko, a tyre dealer in Koforidua, on Tuesday, prayed the National Reconciliation Commission for the restoration of confiscated Mazda car belonging to his brother. He said his France-based brother, Samuel Addo Larbi, peeved by the confiscation, has severed all ties with the family and ceased communicating with them since 1984, and further vowed to have nothing to do with them until his car is found.

The efforts of his father to have the vehicle from the Military Authorities, who said they were using the vehicle for operational duties, were to no avail, and his father died later from worrying. Mr Darko said his brother shipped the car from France to Ghana, but after they had paid an amount of 77,000 cedis for its clearance from the Tema Port, the agent later informed them that the vehicle could not be found anywhere in the port.

Upon further enquiries at the Port, the authorities said a number of vehicles had been confiscated for military operations. His father, he said before his death made futile visits to at the Burma Camp and Gondar Barracks.

He said also made an attempt to go to the Castle, where he had information that some cars had been parked, but was not allowed to go there.

"I need my car", Mr Darko told the Commission.

Safohene Nana Budu Akobre, of Abiriw Akwapim, another Witness, said Mr Yaw Akrasi Sarpong, then Secretary for the Eastern Region led a group of soldiers to break into and destroy a number of stationery stores on the night of February 24 1982; at the Koforidua Post Office Square.

This was in spite of the fact that they had permits to locate there. He said he lost stationery and some calculators and other four manual typewriting machines, all estimated at 300,000 cedis at that time. Nana Akobre said they were afraid to make further reports because Mr Sarpong was seen as a very rough person.
