Woman attempts to burn her baby

20 YEAR OLD MOTHER ATTEMPTS KILLING HER BABY WITH HOT WATER IN ASHAIMAN.

The police division for Domestic Violence Support Unit (DOVSU) in Ashaiman has arrested a 20 year old Matilda Adbahode for deliberately putting her nine (9) months old baby boy into a hot pan of boiling water at Sikafoamantem, a suburb of Ashaiman in an attempt to kill him. According to the victim the act was as a result of the father of the child refusing to look after the baby since he was born, and that she can no longer raise enough money to take care of the baby.

In an interview last Monday Evening with Ebenezer Opong Boateng (A.K.A Aberewaba) host of a social Radio program dubbed “Nsem Sisi” on Sena Radio in Ashaiman, the good Samaritan who first brought the child to the Radio station disclosed that she noticed the baby has been crying continuously over the past week but with her mother Matilda paying no attention to him following her earlier complains that she wanted to end the life of the little innocent boy. She said after a close observation she noticed that the boy have suffered severe burns around his back and waist which the neighbors suspected was as result of her mother putting the baby into a pan of hot water she prepared to bath the baby last week.

She continued that she later begged and persuaded the victim to give her the baby so as she can send him to hospital for medical treatment and after giving her the baby managed to bring him to the Radio station and was later assisted by the host of the program to report the case to the Ashaiman Police division for Domestic Violence Support Unit (DOVSU) and the victim Matilda was subsequently apprehended.

In an interview with the victim, she disclosed that she got herself impregnated by one Isaac but who later denied the pregnancy on accusation that she was dating other guys and subsequently abandoned her together with the baby after the child’s birth. She said after the birth of the child life became unbearable for her thus, her plan of killing the baby. About complains that she has not been taking proper care of the boy for sometime now, she claimed she has intentionally planned to traumatize the baby so she can end the boy’s life in order to take away the burden of taking care of the child. She later confirmed putting the baby into a hot pan of boiling water but pleaded that she did that out of frustration.

According to the Police Officer in charge of Ashaiman Police division for Domestic Violence Support Unit (DOVSU) Beatrice Seidu, on a close observation she realized that the mother of the baby, Matilda is a drug addict and following her condition she was discharged the same day with her family members and the police asked to keep close eyes on her and to report later.

Another interesting twist of the whole story is that, the said Matilda who was discharged by the police on the count of being a drug addict was said to have organized a “Wee” gang from Ashaiman to attack and beat up the lady who had earlier taken the baby and reported the case to the Radio station. Her vexation was that she did not understand why the lady reported the case to the press and the police.

The baby is currently undergoing medical treatment at the Tema General Hospital under the care of Ashaiman (DOVSU).
