A 44-year-old woman, Bernice Paku, met her untimely death when she was allegedly stabbed with a kitchen knife during an alleged street robbery at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region Wednesday night.

The mother of three, who until her death was a dealer in batik tie & dye, was reportedly stabbed in the abdomen close to the heart by the unidentified assailant who took away her handbag believed to contain some cash.

She was on her way home from work after alighting from a car at Anyinam roundabout, near the Sam Jonah’s Estate, when the suspected robber reportedly attacked her.

Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Juliana Obeng, confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, but failed to give details.

However, husband of the victim, Kwaku Paku, said he had spoken to Bernice at about 7:45 pm prior to the callous incident during which the wife indicated to him that she was close to their house, having alighted from a car.

According to the husband, he heard the wife screaming his name and calling for help.

“I leaped out and went to her aid after realizing that she had been stabbed; and with the help of some neighbours, she was taken to the AGA Hospital, but died,” he narrated tearfully.

Mr. Paku lamented, “I’ve been living here for many years and it’s the first time I have heard or witnessed the murder of someone. It’s terrible. Just because of a handbag, you kill my wife and leave me with these young kids.”

He said a report was made to the police later.
