Woman, student in court over parcels of Indian hemp

Accra, July 6, GNA - A woman who was found in possession of 14 parcels of compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at Avenor, an Accra suburb was put before an Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Kalley Bulley, believed to be in her 40's and unemployed has been charged with possession of narcotic drugs without lawful authority. Also in the dock was a 15-year-old student (name withheld) said to be an errand boy to Kalley, and who has also been charged with abetment of crime.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges and the court presided over by Mr Eric Kyei-Baffour has remanded them to re-appear on July 20.

However, the court ordered the police not to keep the student in the adult cells.

The case as presented by the Prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector J.K. Anim was that on June 29, this year, personnel from the Greater Accra Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) proceeded to Avenor a notorious drug hub, for an operation.

During the operation, Chief Inspector Anim said, Kalley and the student were caught in the act of selling some quantities of Indian Hemp to some undercover Police officers from the Greater Accra Regional CID.

Chief Inspector Anim said the accused persons were arrested and during a search 14 parcels of dried leaves were found on them.

During interrogation, the prosecutor said Kalley told the police she had her supply from one Auntie Adwoa through a middleman known as Kwesi but she failed to lead the Police to arrest them.
