Police in the Western Region say they would send the woman who poisoned her two daughters to death at Essikado to the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital for mental examination.

Naana, a 40-year old woman at Essikado on Sunday allegedly mixed food meant for her two daughters with pesticide.

She has since been arrested by the Police.

The Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alex Quinoo who narrated the tragic incident to Citi News said a nearby welder at Essikado drew the attention of the Police to the incident on Monday.

DCOP Quinoo said information they picked up suggested that Naana and her husband had separated “and they had two daughters aged 8 and 6.”

“Because they were separated, the man is staying outside his matrimonial home and usually visits the children and he was even there on Sunday evening.”

DCOP Quinoo added that on Monday morning, Naana came out of her room and beckoned on a nearby welder “to come and see something. So the wielder followed up and the woman showed him the lifeless bodies of the children with foam coming out of their mouths.”

He said upon seeing that, “the welder quickly raised alarm and also informed the Police. So the Police went there to confirm the matter and arrested the woman and deposited the bodies of the children at the morgue.”

The Police Commander added that they are currently investigating the matter but said Naana is being processed for court.

“It is an allegation that the woman is mentally unstable so what we are doing is that we will take her to court to get an order and take her to the Ankaful Psychiatric hospital for proper examination.

"It is a murder case so if it is ascertained that she is mentally derailed, then the court will give an order on it. We are still on the investigation. We will quiz some of the residents in the area to find out what exactly is the situation; whether they had some misunderstanding, whether some untoward things have been happening,” he added.

DCOP Quinoo also urged the residents to volunteer information to enable the Police unravel the truth in the matter.
