The Brong-Ahafo Territorial Head of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Apostle Evans Duku, has criticized the culture of treating women as second class people in the society.

He particularly slammed his fellow pastors who have wrongly interpreted the Bible that women should always be silent and allow men who are heads to act. Apostle Duku, who was speaking in an exclusive interview with Space FM in Sunyani, partly blamed the situation on certain cultural believes which make men regard women as less important in the society.

“Certain cultural believes and practices have dehumanized women as second class people and the trend must be reconsidered to enable women take their rightful positions in the society”, he said.

The Territorial head pointed out that no church can develop without the contribution of women. He supported his argument with the roles women played in the ministry of Jesus Christ. He pointed out that when Christ resurrected, which is the foundation of christianity, he was first seen by a woman who boldly passed on the news to men. Apostle Duku said no where in the Bible are women described as second to men adding that men can not be whole without women. He therefore charged men to accept women as their partners in developing the nation.

The Territorial Apostle noted that several women such as Deborah and Jael were used by God to achieve great results. He also mentioned Lydia who greatly assisted Apostle Paul in establishing the church at Corinth.

He therefore urged the society to give the necessary support to women to enable them make meaningful contribution at all levels of governance. “Women are good leaders and they must be supported in giving off their best”, he said. Apostle Duku encouraged families to give quality education to the girl child to secure their future. He also advised young men to accept women as their partners and avoid discriminating against them.
