The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has filed an application at the High Court in Accra to have his bank accounts defrozen.

A video sighted by GhanaWeb showed an upbeat Wontumi arriving at the High Court with his lawyer, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, to file the application on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

In a brief remark, Appiah-Kubi, a former Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, said, “Today, we are going to move an application to defreeze [the accounts].”

It can be recalled that the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) froze the bank accounts of Chairman Wontumi, who is currently being prosecuted by the state in two separate cases for allegedly engaging in illegal mining, in April 2025.
