The newly-elected Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi called on Kwame Osei Prempeh, the man who contested him for the NPP top position, on Monday.

Accompanied by his campaign team members and party gurus in the region, Wontumi visited the former Deputy Attorney General’s house for two important reasons.

Wontumi and his team were at the Adiembra home in Kumasi of Mr. Osei Prempeh to console him over the death of his mother, a sad incident which occurred last Friday.

Again, the Ashanti regional NPP chairman made the historic visit to assure Mr. Osei Prempeh that the new regional executives of the party are willing to work with him to promote the NPP.

Addressing the gathering, Wontumi said it was important for winners and losers of the just-ended elections to unite and make the party strong to wrestle political power from the NDC in 2016.

The Ashanti regional NPP chairman said the NPP, as a political party, had one common enemy – the New Democratic Congress (NDC) which has been mismanaging the country for the past five years.

Wontumi told his challenger that he was willing to co-opt him into his administration so that together they could work assiduously to make the NPP stronger and poised to win power in 2016.

Mr. Osei Prempeh who welcomed Wontumi’s entourage with open arms, pledged his full support for the regional executives so that the party could win power in 2016.

The former MP for Nsuta-Kwaman-Beposo stressed that Wontumi’s visit to his house gave credence to the fact that the party was united and ready to defeat the NDC in 2016.

Party gurus like George Kofi Adjei aka Geokad, Asare Bediako and Akwasi Nti, NPP constituency chairmen for Nhyiaeso, Asokwa and Fomena, respectively, were present.

Stephen Amoah aka Sticker and Andy Owusu, communications director and campaign manager of Wontumi as well as Eugene Antwi, Agyeman Prempeh, ex-DCE for Ahafo Ano North were also there.

Unity

Meanwhile, Mr Osei Prempeh has said the party’s choice at the regional congress clearly indicated its resolve to return to power after the 2016 elections and should therefore be supported.

“…This election has clearly emphasized assertion that delegates of this party do not make mistakes. I’m very happy with the kind of people elected to lead this party to wrestle power from the NDC and I will do my best to support the new executives succeed,” he said in a press statement signed by Campaign Coordinator Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh on Monday.

According to him, there seemed to be a new breath and rejuvenated hope in the party and he therefore wanted all to embrace that feeling to ensure a resounding victory come 2016.

According to Mr Osei Prempeh, the party’s quest to reclaim political power from the NDC in the 2016 elections had been strengthened and given a major boost with the election and subsequent induction into office of the new breed of talented, hungry-for-power regional party executives.

The ex-MP, however, observed that without unity and the spirit of service, the focus of the party and the new executives would never materialize, calling for massive support from all losing candidates as well as their supporters in order to rally solidly behind them to lead the party.

Mr Osei Prempeh added: “My team and I have no doubt in our minds that these crop of vibrant and noble executives will give to the teaming party faithful and supporters what they have been denied of in two consecutive elections.

“Last Saturday’s contest was all about winning election 2016 for this great elephant party, and as we always say, the NPP delegates do not make mistakes. This was indeed very eminent at the event grounds and I dare say it was one of the best elections organized by the party…the choice of my younger brother, Chairman Wontumi is a clear indication of how the party craves for power and I wholeheartedly support him with all the energy left in me”
