Woodworkers in Ghana have expressed distaste at the decision of Parliament to import most of its furniture for the renovation of the main chamber of the House.

Following the resumption of Parliament on Tuesday to a newly furnished chamber, criticisms have been rife over the seeming snub of Ghanaian companies for Chinese ones in furnishing the inner chamber.

Speaking on Midday Live on Wednesday, Reverend Togbe Fugah, the President of the Woodworkers Association of Ghana, condemned the gesture, saying it does not tone in with government’s call for patronage of made-in-Ghana products.

He said appointment of Ghanaian firms to carve the seats, for example, would have offered employment to many others.

But reports say Parliament resorted to importing the seats because of time constraints.
