Staff and students of Worawora Senior High School in the Biakoye District in the Volta Region have called on the government and the public to help renovate the school’s dilapidated twelve-unit classroom block.
According to them, this building was built during General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong’s regime had no seen renovation.
The building has developed deep cracks and leaks profusely when it rains making teaching and learning extremely difficult.
The school also lacks an assembly hall, teachers bungalows, girls dormitory and additional classroom to accommodate the growing number of students..
The headmaster of the school, Mr. Joseph Dzumador, speaking at the school’s Parent Teacher Association meeting noted that the situation needed urgent attention.
He said the meeting was to afford parents as well as teachers to share ideas on strategies and ways on how to improve the academic standards of the school.
“ It is common knowledge that the good performance of a school was determined largely by all the stakeholders such as parents, students, teachers and educational institution among others and it is appropriate the school organised these meetings with parents to enable them to brain storm on the challenges as well as find ways of sustaining the gains made,” he said.
He commended the government for providing the school with some infrastructural projects.
He called on parents to desist from buying mobile phones for their wards since most of the students were addicted to the use of ‘whatsApp’ while lessons were in progress.
Mr. David Acheampong, PTA chairman, urged parents to always visit the school to know the progress of their children.
