Boamang (Ash), Feb. 4, GNA - Construction works has begun on a steel bridge to replace the weak and narrow one over the Offin River on the Boamang-Ahenkro road in the Afigya-Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region. The project is being funded through a Spanish grant and is scheduled t= o be completed within 12 months.
KNATTO Complex, a Ghanaian construction company, is undertaking the job. Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, District Chief Executive (DCE), on Thursday inspected the project to acquaint himself with the progress of work. The bad nature of the bridge has led to a number of fatal accidents, the last of which claimed 17 lives in 2008.
The DCE said the successful completion of the project would bring huge relief to motorists. Accompanied by Heads of Department of the District Assembly, Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku also inspected on-going school projects at Heman near Ntiribuoho, Penteng, Nkwantakese, Duaponko, Adukro and Abidjan. He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work done by the contractors and urged them to work hard to finish the projects on time. The structures are being built with assistance from the District Development Fund, Ghana Education Trust Fund and Members of Parliament (MP= ) Share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund.
Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku on behalf of the MP for the area, Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah presented building materials worth GH¢16,000.00 to Boamang and Amoako to facilitate development projects in the two communities. Nana Adu-Boahen, Chief of Boamang, expressed appreciation for the donation.
