Winneba, Jan. 22, GNA - Rehabilitation of some roads in Winneba township has been awarded on contract to the tune of 4.6 billion cedis, and work on the project would commence soon.

Mr Kofi Taylor, the assemblyman for Abasraba-Zongo electoral area announced this at a unit committee quarterly meeting at Winneba last weekend.

Mr Taylor said he had already conducted the contractor round the roads involved.

He advised members of the committee to give the contractor the necessary co-operation and assistance to ensure speedy execution of the project.

Mr Taylor urged them to conduct house-to-house campaign to educate voters on the need to embrace voters registration exercise scheduled to take off in March.

This, he said, would enable them to elect candidates of their choice in next general elections in December, this year.

He said the forthcoming elections would determine the level of maturity of the country's democracy, hence the need for every qualified voter to attach great value to the planned registration exercise. Members of the committee expressed their appreciation to Mr Taylor for his openness and transparent administration, and pledged to renew their support and commitment to make his work easy and successful.

They were equally happy that Mr John Derbah, Mr Taylor's running mate in the last district assembly elections for his high sense of nationalism and patriotism which had inspired him to share his rich ideas and experiences with Mr Taylor and members of the committee towards the development of the electoral community.

The meeting called on the district assembly to implement plans to construct access road for residents of New Domeabra to give the community a face-lift.

It was optimistic that Mr Taylor would forward their request to the district assembly for redress.

Mr Derbah urged other contestants who lost the district assembly election to learn from him and team up with those who won their respective electoral seats to ensure full realisation of the aims and objectives of the entire Effutu area.

Mr John K. Nabary, the district operations officer of the Paralegal Group, an NGO, appealed to unit committees, urban, town and area councils in the district to help educate the people on the need to protect the rights and general well-being of children and women, particularly against domestic violence.
